THOMAS J CROSS LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
During my academic career in the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture at Louisiana State University I developed a great understanding of landscape design and site analysis, as well as excellent digital representation skills and extensive knowledge of plant materials. The focus of my academic designs was on the restoration of historic landscapes, incorporating the use of sustainable plant materials and balancing the natural landscape with architectural features. In addition to my coursework, I traveled to the Netherlands and Brazil for research programs where I was able to expand my knowledge in international design and planning practices, environmental design issues and solutions, and new ways to use plant materials.
Most recently I was working as a Landscape Designer for EcoLand Planning and Design located in Beijing, P.R. China. My work experience at EcoLand included high-end residential communities, tropical resorts, commercial & mixed-used developments, water front design, public plazas and community parks. I have hands on experience using AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite to create presentations, illustrative renderings & diagrams, 3D models and construction drawings for the conceptual, schematic and design development phases of projects. I also attended various business trips, meetings and presentations to give input to clients about current and future projects.
I consider myself to be a highly motivated, resilient and determined Landscape Designer with international experience in the field, and a strong educational background. I am currently looking for a position in a company where I can utilize and build upon my experience in design, planning and development of landscapes. As a designer it is my objective to visualize landscapes that not only captivate and inspire people’s experiences through carefully designed architecture and plant selections, but to also create a greater sense of appreciation for the balance between the natural and built environments. My design philosophy is coupled with a clear understanding of a project’s budget, schedule, and most importantly the clients’ needs and goals.
In addition to my experience and Masters degree in Landscape Architecture, I also have a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and valuable work experience in the public/community relations, horticulture and non-profit garden fields.
